Oral Cancer and Dentistry

If you have oral cancer, that requires dental treatment - what should you expect? My experience of having oral cancer has shown a great disparage between medical and dental. What do I mean by this? If you require dental treatment from having medical surgery because of cancer, OR you require dental treatment because your cancer therapy (i.e. radio) has caused dental problems then you could be in trouble.

Medical and Dental are worlds apart and fair enough, perhaps they should be. However, when it comes to someone who has suffered through cancer and now requires a prosthetic device in order to not only look correct but to actually function on a day to day basis with speech, breathing, eating and swallowing - you turn to the dental world and this is where I have seen care end.

You have no choice but to put yourself in the hands of health care professionals, they have spent their lives learning and treating humans
